Investment of two million euros in the full renovation of a supply tank

The new tank replaces the previous one, which was 23 years old. Structural damage to the old tank meant that only a minimum amount of water could be stored in it, due to the risk of it bursting, according to company sources

The water supply and sewer service company, Aguas de Torremolinos, is immersed in a process of renovating crucial infrastructure in the drinking water supply network for the population. With an investment of almost two million euros, the company has dismantled the old San José II tank (next to the bullring), which was affected by structural damage and barely in use. it will be replaced by a new construction that will be operational at the end of June.

With a storage capacity of 20,000 cubic metres of water, the construction of this new tank, which will be called San Miguel, will become a vital element to ensure the water supply to the population, especially in the entire central area of Torremolinos.

The mayor of Torremolinos, José Ortiz, accompanied by the general manager of Aguas de Torremolinos, Pedro Peña, and the Councillor for Urban Development, Maribel Tocón, have visited the works that are under way. Works began in October with the dismantling of the old tank and have been made possible by public-private collaboration between the municipal institution and the company that manages the service, which is covering the investment, an aspect that Peña wanted to highlight.

The new tank replaces the old one that was constructed in 1995 and was 23 years old. Damage to the old tank meant that it could barely hold a minimum amount of water due to the risk of it bursting, according to company sources.

The tank that is under construction will have the second highest capacity to store drinking water in the public network, after the El Pinillo tank (35,000 cubic metres). In total, Torremolinos has six tanks to supply the population, with a total capacity to store 80,000 cubic metres of water.
